The GoPro HD Helmet Hero shoots in 5 different modes:

1. 1920x1080 featuring a 127º field of view and 30 frames per second. Record 8 minutes per GB (only suitable for situations where the camera is very stable due to the narrow field of view).
2. 1280x960 featuring a 170º field of view and 30 frames per second. Record 10 minutes per GB (very tall, good for getting handlebars, skis, boards etc in the shot however hard to mix with normal 16:9 widescreen video in editing).
3. 1280x720 featuring a 170º field of view and 30 frames per second. Record 16 minutes per GB (most versatile mode with great video quality and manageable video size).
4. 1280x720 featuring a 170º field of view and 60 frames per second. Record 8 minutes per GB (same as above, only with 60fps which is good for slow motion videos but uses twice as much memory).
5. 848x480 featuring a 170º field of view and 60 frames per second. Record 16 minutes per GB (a more space efficient way to get 60fps).

Videos are recorded using the H.264 compression and are saved as a .mp4 which is easy to watch and edit on Windows and Mac computers. Audio is recorded using a hidden onboard microphone, which is somewhat muffled by the waterproof case.

You can also shoot 5MP still photos with the GoPro HD Helmet Hero with the following modes: single shot, timer, 3 shot burst and photo every X seconds.
