The Drift HD helmet camera is compact and easy to use. It is the most feature rich action camera to date....

The Drift HD helmet cam is the latest camera from Drift (formerly Drift Innovation). It takes all the major features of the Drift HD170 Stealth including the LCD screen, remote control, full HD video, digital zoom, rugged rubber coating, built-in tripod mount, microphone input and rotating 170 degree wide angle lens and packs them into a 25% smaller camera. New features on the Drift HD include a replaceable lens cover, HDMI output and 9MP still photos. The Drift HD is small, lightweight and easy to use, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of applications.

Shoot HD Video and 9MP photos

drift-hd-lcd.jpgThe Drift HD will help you bring all the action home, recording crisp and clear videos in full 1080p HD. Along with the 1080p mode, you also have the option of shooting 720p at 30 frames per second and 60 frames per second, allowing you to create buttery smooth slow motion videos. You can even record in 480p SD for much smaller file sizes. Video files are saved with a .mov file extension and are compressed with the industry standard H.264 compression. The Drift HD records on to a micro SD card (not included) and it will take up to and including a 32GB card. The Dirft HD has excellent low light capabilities and even has a night mode for when things get really dark. You also have the option of manually adjusting the exposure setting for the Drift HD. In 720p mode the Drift HD has a 4x digital zoom that you can use to perfectly frame your shots.

The Drift HD also takes class leading 9MP still photos. You can set the camera up to take a photo every 2, 3, 5, 10 or 30 seconds. Using this mode you can use the Drift HD to create time lapse videos or you can set it up to take awesome hands free action shots.

All the action is captured through the 170 degree wide angle lens on the Drift HD. Having an extra wide angle lens allows you to capture more of the action and helps make your videos look nice and smooth, even in the roughest conditions. New to the Drift HD is the replaceable front lens cover, which can be easily removed and replaced if you manage to break or scratch it. Just undo the four screws on the front and put a new lens cover on.

LCD Screen and Remote Control

drift-hd-remote.jpgOne of the most important features a helmet camera can have is ease of use and the Drift HD has it in spades thanks to the built in color LCD screen and wireless remote control. The LCD screen on the side of the camera serves a lot of different purposes. You can use the screen to line up your shot, taking the guess work out of where the camera is pointing and what you are recording. You can also use the screen to play back your clips to instantly relive the moment and confirm that you are getting the shots you want. The Drift HD also has an easy to navigate menu that you can use to change settings and delete clips and photos to free up space on your memory card.

The wireless remote control that comes included with the Drift HD has two large buttons: one for starting recording and one for stopping. They are easy to use even with gloves on. You can use the supplied wrist strap to mount the remote control or get the optional remote control bar mount. The Drift HD gives off a loud audible beep to let you know that the recording has stopped or started so that you can be confident you know exactly what the camera is doing.

The front lens on the Drift HD is rotatable so that you can set the camera up in any orientation and then rotate the lens until the shot is level. This allows you to mount the Drift HD anywhere you like.

Connectivity options

Drift HD camera portsThe Drift HD has excellent connectivity and features that give you lots of flexibility. The camera has a USB port so that you can hook it up to your computer and download your clips for review and editing. The Drift HD also has a HDMI (type D) output which allows you to play back your clips in all their glory directly onto your HD TV. You can stream video directly from the camera while you are recording through the HDMI output as well.

In addition to the onboard microphone which has variable sensitivity that you can adjust, you also have the option of hooking up an external microphone to the 2.5mm female jack (a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor is also available). This is a great option for car racers, vloggers and anyone who wants to commentate their ride.

The Drift HD features a new rear port cover design - the rear hatch is now removable and has a centre screw that holds it in place. The Drift HD comes with a second rear port cover with cut-outs for the USB and microphone ports so you can run cables to these ports and still have the rear of the camera closed and protected.

The back side of the Drift HD has a 1/4" female tripod thread embedded in to the camera body so you connect the camera to mounts like monopods, roll bar mounts and suction cup mounts without the need for an adaptor.
