GoPro HD Hero2 FAQs

1. How much recording time do I get on a 2GB card with the GoPro HD Hero2?

1080P (1920 x 1080): 16 minutes
960P (1280 x 960): 22 minutes
720P (1280 x 720, 30fps): 30 minutes
720P (1280 x 720, 60fps): 16 minutes
480P (848 x 480): 16 minutes in 120fps mode

2. What is the largest card size I can use?

The biggest SD card you can use in a GoPro HD Hero2 is a 32GB card (4 hrs 21 mins in 1080P mode, 5 hrs 26 mins in 960P mode). The card must be class 4 or faster. If you want to use the "photo every 0.5 seconds" mode you will need a class 10 card

3. How long will the battery last in the GoPro HD Hero2?

The rechargeable battery will last approximately 2.5 hours and takes the same amount of time to recharge via USB. Battery life is affected by temperature so recording times will be shorter in cold weather. Attaching one of the optional GoPro Bacpacs will also shorten the battery life (except the Battery Bacpac which doubles the battery life).

4. Does the GoPro HD Hero2 shoot in widescreen?

Yes, all the modes are 16:9 (widescreen) except for 960P, which is 4:3.

5. Is a wide angle or narrow lens available?

The GoPro HD Hero2 has a super wide angle 170 degree field of view in all shooting modes. In the 1080p mode you can choose to reduce the field of view to either medium 127 degrees or narrow 90 degrees. The wide 170 degree field of view makes the video very smooth to watch, however it does makes things look further away than they actually are. There isn't any alternative lens options available for the GoPro HD Hero2.

6. Is the GoPro HD Hero2 waterproof?

Yes, the GoPro HD Hero2 is waterproof and is rated to 60 metres. Note however that the GoPro HD Hero2 has a curved lens that does distort the video quality underwater. There are third part flat lens conversions available for the GoPro HD Hero2.

7. What format does the GoPro HD Hero2 record in?

Videos are saved in .mp4 (H.264 compression). Windows and Mac users should find these formats easy to use.

8. Does the GoPro HD Hero2 record audio?

Yes, the GoPro HD records audio via an onboard microphone. With the camera in the waterproof case the audio can be quite muffled but it does cut out most wind noise. There is also an extra rear door with open slots included in the kit which you can use to increase the sensitivity of the GoPro HD Hero2, however it is not waterproof. The GoPro HD Hero2 also has a 3.5mm microphone input allowing you to plug in an external microphone (although you will need to use the camera outside of the housing or purchase the optional GoPro HD Skeleton Housing).

9. Can I watch my videos back from the GoPro HD Hero2?

Yes, you can connect the GoPro HD directly to your TV and play your clips back on your TV. You can also connect the GoPro HD to your computer and download the clips to watch/edit on your computer. You can also purchase the optional GoPro LCD Bacpac which plugs in to the back of the GoPro HD Hero2 and allows you to review your videos.

10. How does the GoPro Wi-Fi work with the HD Hero2?

GoPro will be releasing an optional bacpac that plugs in to the rear of the GoPro HD Hero2. Full technical specifications on how the Wi-Fi bacpac will work are not yet available, however GoPro state that the Wi-Fi Bacpac will allow users to stream live video via Wi-Fi to a wi-fi enabled phone/tablet/computer. At this stage it is unclear what resolution or data rate the GoPro HD Hero2 will stream video at. The Wi-Fi Bacpack will also come with a Wi-Fi remote control that will allow you to control the camera remotely. It looks like this remote will have feedback from the GoPro HD Hero2 camera it is controlling however this is unconfirmed.

11. What is the difference between the Outdoor, Motorsports and Surf editions of the GoPro HD Hero2 packages?

All these kits come with the exact same camera and waterproof housing. The only difference is the mounts that come in the package.

12. How much is postage and how long does it take?

Express delivery is included free of charge. Orders are normally sent the same day they are received (before 12pm WST) and take 1-2 days within Australia (depending on your location, allow extra for regional and remote areas). International orders depend on location.
